Marco Benevento made the short drive over the weekend from his home in Woodstock, NY to nearby Levon Helm Studios. Benevento’s pair of performances with his eponymous solo trio also featured support from the keyboardist’s Joe Russo’s Almost Dead bandmate Scott Metzger.

The hallowed barn once owned and operated by The Band drummer Levon Helm is familiar territory for Benevento. After last performing at the 200-capacity venue in November 2021, he returned later that month to sit in with The Slip for the newly-reactivated trio’s entire second set. In 2020, Benevento also released a live album chronicling his March 9th, 2019 performance at the venue.

Like Helm before him, Benevento has himself become a champion of the Woodstock artistic community. In addition to living in the area and recording his albums, including 2022’s West African psych experiment Benevento, at his home Fred Short Studios, last summer also saw Marco launch his own Follow The Arrow festival in nearby Accord. The single-day event brought classic Northeast bands like The Slip, Benevento’s old outfit Surprise Me Mr. DavisAntibalas, and more to the idyllic Arrowood Farms just 20 minutes south of Woodstock.
