A Snoop Dogg biopic is in the works by the Snoop Dogg-founded Death Row Pictures, the newly launched film division of the Snoop Dogg-owned Death Row Records, Deadline reported this week. The film will mark the first project from Death Row Pictures following Snoop’s acquisition of the Death Row Records brand early this year.

The project is being developed in partnership with Universal Pictures. Allen Hughes (Book of EliThe Defiant Ones, Menace II SocietyDead Presidents) has signed on as the director while Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther) will write the script. Snoop Dogg will serve as a producer on the film alongside Hughes and Sara Ramaker.

The as yet untitled Snoop Dogg biopic will aim to present the definitive story of the rapper and multi-hyphenate entertainment icon. “I waited a long time to put this project together because I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy that I’m trying to portray on screen, and the memory I’m trying to leave behind,” said Snoop in a statement. “It was the perfect marriage. It was holy matrimony, not holy macaroni.”
