St. Vincent and Beck have been developing a close working relationship as of late. After performing together at the Nirvana reunion show, St. Vincent has released a funked-up remix of Beck’s “Uneventful Days”.

The song, which appears on Beck’s latest release, Hyperspace, tells the story of a person struggling to cope after a breakup. The Beck and Pharrell Williams-penned lyrics describe a relatable situation of loss and the feeling of despair that follows. “Uneventful days, uneventful nights/Living in that dark, waiting for the light/Nothing you could say could make it come to light/I don’t have a way to make you change your mind”. Furthermore, the video for the song, directed by Blood Orange, paints an equally dismal image.

Meanwhile, St. Vincent was hard at work putting her own touch on the tune. She took the melancholic original and laced it with her jubilant flair. A funky bassline dominates the remix. Similarly, funk guitar and synth sit comfortably over the mix, creating a stark contrast between the vocals and music.
