Prolific quarantine songsmith/social distancing sensei Trey Anastasio is back once again with his latest new tune, “My World Is My Home”.
While many of Trey’s near-daily quarantine releases from his NYC apartment have utilized layers of metaphors and symbolism to comment on our required isolation, “My World Is My Home” is as literal as songs come. Trey riffs on that theme—his home and his world being one and the same—like an old bluesman recounting tales of good days past (“One time I walked across the Golden Gate Bridge; Now it’s a big thrill to walk to the fridge”) and connections missed (“Some good people leave my food by the door; I don’t even see their face anymore”). He does eventually relent, however slyly, that he actually kind of digs this whole “quarantine” thing.
The song’s relatively simple blues-rock bounce is accented by a pair of high notes at the end of each phrase, which Trey can be seen “playing along with” on a toaster and a wine glass, respectively, in the video shared along with the track. A new video of Trey Anastasio intently honing his toaster tone sounds like something we might have joked about when this all started, but here we are.
Hey, even if you’re churning out new songs at a hare’s pace, you’re entitled to get bored on occasion. This may not be the best song Trey’s ever written, but it will surely give you a good laugh before you go back to scrolling through your news feed. We feel you, Red. Weird times.
Trey Anastasio – “My World Is My Home”
For those keeping score, “My World Is My Home” marks the eleventh installment of this Trey Anastasio quarantine series (following “Are You There Colleen?”, “Lonely Trip”, “Shaking Someone’s Outstretched Hand”, “I Never Left Home”, “Lotus”, “When The Words Go Away”, “Timeless”, “I Never Needed You Like This Before”, “The Greater Good”, and “Lost In The Pack”). That’s not to mention the rehearsal recording of Ghosts of the Forest‘s “If Again” shared last weekend and, oh yeah, the new Phish album the band surprised us with last week. If anyone’s winning at quarantining, it’s Trey.
