Vulfpeck delivered another Vulf Vault 005: Wongs Cafe preview on Tuesday with a reimagining of “Radio Shack”. The track first appeared on the group’s 2020 album, The Joy of Music, The Job of Real Estate. The new version will hold a slot on Vulfpeck’s upcoming LP, out this Friday, January 7th.
Compared to the 2020 version of “Radio Shack”, the Wongs Cafe telling is far punchier while still maintaining the foundational 8-bit glory. An ode to the ever-dwindling electronics retail chain, the instrumental composition rings of technologies past with an antiquated sound that achieves a retro aesthetic.
Vulfpeck scales down the keyboards for this track, with just Woody Goss on Rhodes and Joey Dosik on piano, while Jack Stratton mans the camera. The song’s syncopated rhythms hear Cory Wong (guitar), Joe Dart (bass), and Theo Katzman (drums) fall in line with the keyboardist for one of the more straightforward compositions so far displayed on Wongs Cafe.

Vulf Vault 005: Wongs Cafe features ten all-new instrumental compositions from Vulfpeck, marking the band’s first album since The Joy of Music. The release also comes as the fifth installment of the Vulf Vault series which highlights a specific member of the band with a collection of previously unreleased material. It will mark the first release of the year for the notoriously productive guitarist Cory Wong, who last year released Wong On Ice, The Paisley Park Session, Turbo, The Golden Hour, and Cory and the Wongnotes.
