Cory Wong has released Wong On Ice, a new live musical and athletic performance.
Wong On Ice serves as a follow-up to The Paisley Park Session, an in-studio live album recorded at Prince‘s famous home studio in Chanhassen, MN released back on October 29th. This new Christmas release marks Wong’s fifth release of the calendar year after The Paisley Park Session, his Dirty Loops collab album, Turbo, The Golden Hour collab LP with Dave Koz, and Cory and the Wongnotes.
Wong On Ice features five songs—”Bluebird“, “Cosmic Sans“, “Smokeshow“, “Team Sports“, and “Brooklyn Bop”—as well as “athletic” performances like “Hockey Shootout with Andy Wong” and “Penalty Shots on Petar [Janjic]”. Of course, the Minnesota-based Cory and his 11-person ensemble perform in skates and full hockey gear.

“I’m interested in the limitations of my focus and the musical excellence of my band,” says Wong in a press release. “I run experiments seeing what kind of challenges we can give ourselves to perform well under any circumstance. Have you always wanted to see a band perform in hockey gear on a hockey rink? Probably not…but here we are. It turned out to be an incredible entertainment experience!”
