Doom Flamingo, the modern synth-wave side project of Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik, will headline an official afterparty at Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday, February 16th, 2019 following the last of three Umphrey’s shows at Brooklyn Steel. The Doom Flamingo afterparty will take begin just before midnight, giving fans more than enough time to take the short subway ride from Brooklyn Steel to Brooklyn Bowl in time to catch the late-night festivities.
The six-piece Doom Flamingo initially formed earlier this year as a result of Stasik helping to put together a group of highly sought-after musicians from the Charleston, South Carolina music scene. Members of the retro rock band include Stasik, Michael Quinn saxophone, Ross Bogan on keys, Stuart White on drums, Thomas Kenney on guitar, and Kanika Moore on vocals. The band has since begun releasing their own original music and is also scheduled to play an official after-show at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on December 28th during the upcoming Umphrey’s McGee New Year’s Eve run.
Perhaps the best description of the retro rock project comes from the band itself, which state on their website that their music can be thought of as “Top Gun guitar riffs and Miami Beach poolside lounge-vibes, [which are] all at once contrasted with eerie darksynth soundscapes reminiscent of old John Carpenter films.”
While Doom Flamingo may still be a relatively new project, fans can tune into some of their already impressive chemistry with the entertaining animated video for “Runaway” below:
