The latest installment in the Grateful Dead‘s All The Years Live archive video series is available now on the band’s YouTube page. This entry highlights the band’s performance of “Casey Jones” during the Dead’s show at the Winterland Arena on New Year’s Eve 1978.
This live cut marks the fifth All The Years Live video pulled from the Dead’s infamous “Closing of the Winterland” show on 12/31/78, following the previously-shared “Samson And Delilah”, “St. Stephen”, “Not Fade Away”, and a three-part “Sugar Magnolia”/”Scarlet Begonias”/”Fire On The Mountain”. The Dead’s last-ever performance at the old San Francisco arena hears the band power through the Workingman’s Dead classic one final time in the venue in front of their hometown fans in the early morning hours of 1979.

As Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux notes in the video’s description
Another well-known and much-loved tune from Workingman’s Dead, Casey Jones was played very sporadically after 1974, until it was finally retired on 3/27/93 in Albany, NY. This performance from the Closing Of Winterland was the opening song of the encore, which they followed by Johnny B. Goode and We Bid You Goodnight before sending people out with breakfast into 1979.
