The latest installment in the Grateful Dead‘s All The Years Live archival video series is available now on the band’s YouTube page. This entry highlights the Dead’s performance of “Bertha” at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, NY on July 4th, 1989.
This clip joins fellow 7/4/89 entries “Touch of Grey” and “Cold Rain And Snow” from the site now known as Bills Stadium. “Bertha” came as the show-opener for the concert that would later be officially released as Truckin’ Up To Buffalo in 2005. Kicking off with the high-intensity stomper, this live cut—as well as the entire concert itself—personifies the very best of the Dead in 1989.
Grateful Dead archivist and legacy manager David Lemieux notes in the video’s description,
From its opening notes, we knew this was going to be a show on July 4th. This Bertha finds the Dead in fine form, carrying on the energy they’d ended the previous show in Foxboro.
